So here’s the question almost everyone asks. Is it a Sport Coat or is it a Blazer? It actually isn’t the same thing. A Blazer usually comes in Black, Camel, Grey and other solid colors sometimes with metal buttons and a Sport Coat covers the rest such as hounds tooth, tweeds and so on. As much as we say this, the truth is…Every man should own one or the other. There’s so many awesome selections to choose from and so many ways to wear it. I love how you can wear a Tweed Sport coat and have it look just as tough on you as the fabric its made of. Yes, the Tough Gentleman is my favorite look and even if your more polished around the edges, a Blazer or Sport Coat is something that should be in a man’s wardrobe. With the way that styles are being fused and the way fashion is continuously growing from all directions, and not just whats on the runway, there is no must do rules except for these.
1. Your coat should fit you well. The shoulders are where your jacket should fit best. So if you’re buying off the rack like most of us, its cool…just visit your local tailor and get fitted!
2. The length of your jacket is determined by your height. If you’re a tall fella, then you would get a long and if you’re of average height then go for the regular.
3. You should be able to hug yourself wearing the coat without having it rise.
4. Tight is nice but you should have enough space to wear a sweater underneath when your coat is button closed.
5. The less shoulder padding, the better. A form fitting coat should compliment your physique not puff you up.
So there you have it! Below are some sharp selections covering many different styles from Corduroy to Tweed and your basic wool as well, plus one Dandy ensemble styled with a Marc Jacobs Navy Blazer. Cheers.
